What artist was better when they went solo than with their band? Give the name of the band they were in also.

Dude from Death Cab.

I enjoy his Postal Service album more than any album by Death Cab - Death Cab had some really cool singles, but I never could get into their albums.

For clarification - are you saying the solo artist is better than the original band, or are you saying them going solo allowed that artist to shine just as well if not better than the original band?

I think George Harrison's All Things Must Pass allowed him to explode, whereas Paul's and John's post-Beatle work... it's hard to say if it was better than their Beatle work for some of it, and some of it was just terrible.

Also Eddie Vedder's soundtrack into the wild is for me just as enjoyable as any Pearl Jam work.

The second side of Foo Fighters' In Your Honor was supposed to be solo work by Dave Grohl - I liked that acoustic work he did.

I guess I meant that their solo stuff was better than their band stuff. Not that they were better than the bands necessarily. Butjust made better records after. Or either.
