Not sure if this is on here already, but it's definitely worthy of discussion, and of being added to the database of charts.

This is something I bring up on here sometimes (I did today, ironically). This list is good and I agree with most placeholders but not with some of their positions.

Amy Winehouse, Spice Girls, Hole, Adele, Dolly Parton & Lauryn Hill (amazing album but more like top 10 material not top 2) are rated too high.

The Breeders, Robyn, Joanna Newsom, Cocteau Twins, Solange, Pauline Oliveros, Sonic Youth (does it actually count?), Fiona Apple, Alice Coltrane, Sleater-Kinney, Portishead, Destiny's Child (yes, I see a pop act as underrated), X-Ray Spex, M.I.A. & Kate Bush are rated too low.

And one final note...

WHY IN HELL DID THEY PUT POST ON HERE AND NOT HOMOEGENIC?

Yeah, there's gonna be disagreement about every list, but the notion of this list is cool... "A list created by women re-imagining a women-centric view of pop music history". It goes a small way to bring a balance to things.

I'm male, but tend to like a lot of female artists, and having trawled this website constructing my own lists, my subjective opinion is that albums by women artists and black artists are generally underrated (which suggests to me that the majority of music geeks that use this site are white and male). YMMV.

There are many that I would've chosen a different album for:

Janet Jackson - Rhythmn Nation instead of Control
Shery Crow - Self-Titled instead of Tuesday Night Music Club
Madonna - Ray of Light Instead if Like a Virgin
Rickie Lee Jones - Self-Titled instead of Magazine
Patty Griffin - So many to choose from instead of Flaming Red
Ella Fitgerald - several other songbook albums ahead of Johnny Mercer
Bonnie Raitt - Road Tested instead of Nick of Time
Mavis Staples - We'll Never Turn Back (produced by Ry Cooder) over Be Altitude: Respect Yourself

I'm sure there are others.

Some albums I wish were there:

Shawn Colvin - A Few Small Repairs
Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstacy or Surfacing
Sam Phillips - Martinis and Bikinis
Joan as Police Woman - Real Life
Suzanne Vega - Solitude Standing
Edie Brickell and anew Bohemians - Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars, or Ghost of a Dog

Some artist that should be represented:

St Vincent
Esperanza Spalding

Strange Mercy & Emily's D+Evolution would've been ideal for the list.

Agreed. Also, I think for Fiona Apple it should've been The Idler Wheel... instead of Tidal.

The Miseducation is better than all your favourite albums.

Yikes.

Not to the idea of making such a list, but to the sight of so many mediocre/bad albums -- as usual, as to be expected ... unfortunately.

(and some way too elevated apparently because the singer tragically died ... sorry to be the one who said it)

I will say that it was startling and welcome to see Dolmen Music and Litanies of Satan make the cut.

The Return Of Red Emma - Lida Husik (1993)
A Day In The Stark Corner - Lycia (1993)
The Burning Circle And Then Dust - Lycia (1995)

I'm sure I missed some while blitzing through my "Greatest Albums" list and hastily copying them onto here. Also many others fell short of my list (or I just need to revisit them) but would, imo, top most of the albums on the one in the OP above.
