|
So... Based on the quality of albums released in a certain year, what is the best year in music history?
1991? 1973? 2002? 1774?(Those aren't the only choices, just examples in case you were confused.)
What say you?!
P.S. If you're bored, you can also say what you think the worst year in music is.

I'll have to say 1971. I just checked my Collectorz.com Music Collector data base (awesome way to organize your collection, by the way) and all of these favorites of mine popped up...there's about 50 on this list! All of these could definitely find a place among the best albums ever. Of course there are those who would disagree with some of these...but I'd recommend any of these albums to any true music lover. As you can see, I had to discover all of these long after they came out (I was only a year old in 1971...lol) 1971 was definitely a very good year for quality music and it was also very diverse...a lot of genres are represented in this list of albums in my personal collection.
(For runners-up, I'd have to pick 1968 and 1977...I dunno..it's a tie to me)
Here's the 1971 favorites:
Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Can - Tago Mago
Black Sabbath - Masters of Reality
David Bowie - Hunky Dory
David Crosby - If Only I Could Remember My Name
The Who - Who's Next
Led Zeppelin - IV
Janis Joplin - Pearl
Pink Floyd - Meddle
The Doors - L.A. Woman
Allman Brothers - At Fillmore East
George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
Joni Mitchell - Blue

Flamin' Groovies - Teenage Head
Faust - Faust
Traffic - The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys
Caravan - In the Land of Pink and Grey
Budgie - Budgie
Sly & The Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On
Allen Toussaint - Allen Toussaint
Jethro Tull -Aqualung
The Beach Boys - Surf's Up
Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On
Harry Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson
King Crimson - Islands
John Lennon - Imagine
Paul McCartney - Ram
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Deep Purple - Fireball
Focus - Hocus Pocus
Kinks - Muswell Hillbillies
Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride

That might be the stupidest reason I've ever heard
I think he meant due to things being released that year.
For me, top 5 in order: 1967, 1979, 2004, 1991, 1973 _________________ Doubles & Conch

Well, I stick to my belief that the best decade in modern music is the one that just passed, as it had more variety and experimentation than almost any decade before it.
But the best musical YEAR would have to be 1997, seeing some of the best releases by Radiohead, GY!BE, Mogwai, Foo Fighters, Dream Theater, Deftones and Spiritualized. 1969 is a close second, though.
Not so sure about the worst year in music, but it probably happened in the mid-eighties.
