I'm working concert events again this summer, and yesterday I worked at Rockfest for 19 hours (6am to 12:45am). It was absolutely atrocious. Save for Stone Temple Pilots (who were on the stage opposite mine, I worked backstage) and Underoath, who were actually pretty decent for a metalcore band. Everything else was pure shite. But nothing remotely comes close to the backwashed bilge that was Five Finger Death Punch. The crowd that showed up for this concert were, by in large, the kind of folks who eat their brand of music up. I can't tell you how many T-Shirts I saw yesterday that said something like, "FUCK YOU ASSHOLE", and other delightful profanities. I had never actually listened to them beyond several snippets flying past on the radio, so this was the first time I was actually exposed to their music. Five Finger Death Punch combine 4th grade literacy rates with completely hackneyed "hard rock" riffs. (I would never demean Metal music by calling this weaksauce attempt at being heavy metal.) At various points during the show the lead singer would proselytize on various subjects including: supporting our troops, AMERICUH!, I"M SOBER NOW, and many more. Before I get too political, I'll just say that it left me feeling a bit disillusioned (as someone who is fairly moderate, but would certainly be considered a republican by most). All of the worst stereotypes were on display. It was the worst live music act I've seen thus far, and I can't see it being topped in the near future.

At least I get to see Ween tonight, they'll be the palette cleanser that I need.

Underoath 😁 is what I always say people "are not basic metalcore as usual" but unfortunately people start hating them even before they hear anything from them!
