I don't know about you but im suprised On Avery Island doesnt get as much acclaim as In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Dont get me wrong Aeroplane is a much better album but On Avery Island is still very good

Anyone trying to be 'hip' or 'NMH FOREVER DUDE' and saying that Avery Island is any good at all, is lying 🙄
In The Aeroplane is hands-down one of the best albums ever,
and the only way Mangum got there was to have the experiment of Avery Island
but by itself, is pretty aweful 🫢

You can honestly like NMH yet not like Avery Island. Like seriously sit down and listen to Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone and say it isn't as good as anything on ITAOTS.

Agreed!! (Well not with Hayden).
On Avery Island really is a great album. Obviously it's no Aeroplane, so stop comparing Avery Island to it!! Just enjoy the magic.

People who praise ITAOTS and hate On Avery Island are just trying to look hip.
They sound similar, both have great lyrics, On Avery Island only lacking the thematic coherence which makes ITAOTS the better album.
And "Gardenhead/Leave Me Alone" has got to be one of the best song transitions ever.
