That wasn't a bad article. The title is somewhat misleading but the content of the article I do agree on where compared to Beach House, The Chainsmokers will never get to that high level of acclaim. Only ridicule from music critics and listeners.

it took me to figure out what "contracting low end" is/was. no editing dept. at ptchfrk, huh?

the "article" is essentially some prick complaining that someone he doesn't like enjoys something he also enjoys. gee, that's gonna ruin ice cream and pizza for him when he finds out.....

But if you grew up listening to underground music, seeing someone who embodies everything you hate like an indie band you love still has the power to annoy you. When Taggart repeats โ€œThis is my type of thingโ€ throughout the song, it almost feels like a taunt.

This is musical elitism of the highest order. The guys in The Chainsmokers can't like music that goes against the music they make?

Beach House was not, and has never been "underground". They are an "indie" rock band, and their music has been critically acclaimed since their first album was released. They have a couple million listens a month on Spotify.

It realistically is. Hell if an act I hate adored an act I enjoyed, I wouldn't mind.

Yeah, the Beach House fan who wrote this is basic, and this is a bad article.

But how fair is it to paint with a broad brush? This is an honest question; while I am a fan of sorts, I have never interacted with the broader Beach House fanbase other than with a few friends irl and online who like them.

That was just a joke that was meant to reflect the opinions of the author. I would be a bit hypocritical if I thought that. However, I could see this being the standpoint of plenty of overly-serious hipster type people.

it's not about them liking music, it's about them using the music as a part of their product (like with the soundalike advertisement that was mentioned). I feel like the mini article could go in greater depth but I don't understand what makes it so objectionable. like it's a little snobby but not that severe.

Eh, but that kind of thing is done all of the time. Was their a similar article when Maroon 5 had the hit "Moves Like Jagger"?

"Maybe a Beach House song was playing in the lobby of Equinox right after the opening line came to Taggart."

This line seems to indicate that they would not have even been able know about Beach House on their own accord. They would have had to heard the song through happenstance.
