Why is that? I would have though Moonlight would have done better with its variety. But I'd be interested for the other side.
Title track aside, I find Moonlight (and Disclosure in general) a little nondescript. It feels like standard run-of-the-mill house, but lacking the personality of Settle (which, I suppose came from the featured guests). It's not a bad EP, but it never gripped me. Surprised you think there's variety on it... the final four tracks are stylistically and compositionally very similar. If the tracks were fished from the backsides of 80's DJ extended-remix 12"s, I don't think people would've bat it an eye (albeit, it would've been notably well-produced for the time). And for house tracks a mere 3-4 minutes, they wane fairly fast.
It's an odd complaint when Sounds Almighty also sounds like it comes from a previous era, but I think it holds better as a solid album (Moonlight is basically an extended single, but still). As a whole, if I had to pick an album to play out of the two, I wouldn't second guess putting on Birchall/Breadwinner, and that's what it comes down to for me. _________________ Doubles & Conch

While I do disagree with some of the claims, this was a fascinating read.
Now I understand the idea that not everything will be hard hitting compared to other people. Hell, I fall into that camp as well. But while I do hear some how the styles and compositions are similar in design, those tracks to me have more distinct identity. Maybe this is a bit of a stretch but compared to both albums, I would feel people would have an easier time to tell apart each track with Moonlight. Since Moonlight decides to go through different genres of house like Love Can Be So Hard going into a Future Funk direction or Where Do You Come From goes to having sounds with music that take place in Africa. Sounds Almighty while an excellent record falls into this pothole where there are distinct moments to tell each track apart but the catch is that the album does bleed in from one to another. To the point where I do question Am I on a loop? Even when I do enjoy it.
The other thing I disagree with would be how the songs would wane. Because when I need a fix, it never last its welcome. Especially when the longest song on this ep was 6 minutes long. And that comes from how the duo ends a track or there are these little details that I obsessed over.
I think the only thing I'm curious would be House albums that you believe do more since I do need more albums in this style of music.
It may not be strikingly original in its treatment of house, but it's really well-made, has great grooves, and every track goes. All killer no filler. So that makes me the second vote.
