In no particular order...
The Hawk is Howling-Mogwai
Dig Out Your Soul- Oasis
Vampire Weekend- Vampire Weekend
Dear Science- TV on the Radio
I didn't really get much 2008 music in 2008.
And IMO, Kanye rapping is a lot better than Kanye singing.

2008 year:
1) Paavoharju - Laulu Laakso Kukista
My favorite album of year 2008. While Vampire Weekend sounded just like an Indie band is supposed to, Paavoharju sounds so much more. Dreamy soundscapes, haunting visions near perfection, Paavoharju mixes indie, classical and Finnish folk music as they own them. Last year it was Burial this year its Paavoharju.
2) Gang Gang Dance - Saint Dymphna
GGD suprised me in a good way. They have clearly been influenced by wide range of music genres. You can hear Kraftwerk in one song and Yeah Yeah Yeahs in a another. Im realy hoping something big from this NY group next time.
3) Nick cave & The Bad Seeds - Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!
Moonland and Night of the lotus Eaters are the best songs in 2008. Enough sayed.

Maybe I'll throw a list of rock only. I still don't know if I will do one for the other genres. I don't know.
