All right up against the brotha in the greater Puget sound region, tis on. And great matchup, two biggies for very different moods. Even with my recent 90s/early 00s R&B kick gotta go with LWB, truly one of the great one-album wonders and even as this, one of their more straightforward tracks it just hits the right nerve, though should be experienced in a live format for best impact
Damn! This is one of the toughest matches so far. So different and yet both so good. And hadn't heard either before tonight. May let them marinate for just a bit.
The Life Without Buildings track to me while is competent didn't move me or makes me understand why people like it. And I have to listen to this album for the canon game so...
That will probably be a eh listening but I'll save that when I get to that.
While the Ashanti track just works. Though that is with the caveat that I'd argue there were better R&B pop tracks in the first half of the 2000's like Beyonce's Me Myself and I as well as Alicia Key's You Don't Know My Name.
So far, every pairing has been either easy because there's been one killer cut, or really difficult because it's been so hard to choose between two great nominations. For me, that positive streak ended here. The first option was just far to simple and repetitious in its underlying structure to hold my interest for well over five minutes, and the second did nothing at all for me. At lest the first option did build the top layer while the bottom layer remained static, so it did kind of keep me somewhat entertained, so it would be foolish for me to vote for Foolish and I'm off to settle in the New Town for this vote.
Again, first listens for both. Liked the rawness of New Town but I thought it needed a bit more bite to really take off. Really liked the Ashanti track though.
I liked the Ashanti song, but Any Other City is one of my favorite indie rock albums of the 2000s and New Town is one of the better songs on it. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
New Town wouldn't be my pick off that album, but it is a great album, so... yeah, that. The Ashanti video is just too... how should we put this, 2002 for its own good. Brings back some weird memories.
