I'm not real big on the "greatest punk band of all time" as they were voted ๐Ÿ™„

I'll just say that this album doesn't totally suck

For six years, I hated on this album, citing that it was the most overrated album of the decade, and was meaninglessly pretentious post-grunge garbage.

But after listening to it again a few months ago, I realized it's actually really good at points.

Nice album, but nothing special (60/100), but one 5/5 song: American Idiot. i slightly prefer Dookie.
The good thing about this album is that Punk Rock went mainstream once again in the 2000s.

This was one of those albums that it was seriously uncool to like in high school and I fell into the same trap. I'll have to listen to it again to see if it really was all that bad or if I was just being a douchey teen like the rest of my peers.

If you never listened to this in high school (or middle school if you're Applerill), then you had no childhood.

ugh... American Idiot (the title track) is absolutely terrible. ๐Ÿคฎ

And in general, the vocals are crap and generic.

The album itself definitely isn't 'great' (at all), but it is good.

I think is extremely overrated, not Green Day's best at all. Is a pretty good album thought, I personally think Jesus of Suburbia is a master piece.

I hated this album in middle school when it came out because all these people I hated listened to it and called it "punk" (favourite thing someone ever said: "Billy Joel is punk because he wears eye-liner"), but when I tried to get them to listen to the Clash or Dead Kennedys (which I was listening to a lot at the time) they dismissed it as stupid because they had never heard of it before.....sigh...

in the long run its a merely average album, the long songs are quite good, but I still think Wake Me Up When September Ends is one of the most horrendous pieces of drivel ever released
