I'm not in love with Home to You (mostly I just think it's a little long) but it's still the easy vote here. This is one of the better Car Seat Headrest songs I've heard but I'm still happy that this is probably the last time I'll listen to a song by him. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. Reward is an under-rated album that should be in the top 100 for 2019 (it's in mine), but Beach Life-In Death is one of my favourite CSH songs (although it's one of the few that I prefer the Mirror to Mirror version).
This wouldn't be my Cate pick on the record (that'd go down to the Marc Ribot esque boney breakdown on the magnificent Magnificent Gestures) but I can't in good conscious vote for a CSH song from the first half of the decade. I feel like the rerecording didn't really change that one up too much and actually took me away from what I loved so much about that album.
I've always liked Cate but never really fallen in love with her sound as of yet, and this song doesn't move the needle any further but I still enjoy it well enough. The Car Seat song kind of lost me pretty early, realize I've never actually listened to the re-do of that album in it's entirity
BLID is clearly the better song, though I do kind of prefer the original version, so I can see not wanting to vote for an inferior remake of a song that wouldn't qualify. But it was allowed to be nominated, and it is a better track, so I'm obviously going for my nominee. _________________ "Those are you've got some nice shoulders, I'd like to put my hands around them."
I listened to both versions of that album for the first time yesterday. I think around the time when Teens of Denial hype was going around, I tried some of his older stuff, probably including Twin Fantasy, and I got turned off by the production. Not that I dislike lo-fi stuff, or that the new version does everything better, but the vocals are far more bearable and it makes it a pretty good listen. So I much prefer the 2018 re-do, including this song.
