What kind of music do you currently like? If you're a pop fan, start a little small with something like the Van Halen debut or Dr. Feelgood by Motley Crue. A very good start for metal (and a revolutionary one for its mainstream success) is Metallica, a.k.a. The Black Album.. For me the first three Black Sabbath albums were a gateway into enjoying metal, which I was very skeptical of as a genre until a few years ago. They're still my favorites.
For what it’s worth my partner got into metal through Boris. They’ve got some very pretty records that kinda eschew the metal genre label a bit. Pink’s a really good one
