all we imagine as light,
small things like these,
kinds of kindness,
hard truths, waves—
... I'm still here—
look back,
touch,
flow,
it's what's inside,
caught by the tides,
when the light breaks—
a traveller's needs—
Welcome!

Ahem. It is my unfortunate duty to announce that the criminal at large Feathers McGraw has stolen my thread intro. We have asked M15 and Scotland Yard to take this seriously, and assign their best officers to the case. We hope this issue is solved soon, and no further victims are involved. We apologize for any inconvenience.

This is only the second time this century my favourite film of the year is also the Academy's Best Picture winner (the other being Parasite), and I can't for the life of me think of what else the film of the year would be. Anora is such a knockout. I've yet to write a review for it, and I'm not sure if I will, but I'm just so glad and proud of what Sean Baker has achieved with this picture, and to see him get his flowers for it has been a real joy this year. And what an underdog too... no way a film like this would've received its dues ten years back. Hilarious. Poignant. Heartbreaking. Human. A 2020s Romeo & Juliet, Brothers Grimm, Austen, whateverhaveyou— more than anything, it's just a great time, and great cinema. My favourite film of the decade so far.
I don't have a huge handful of gems from the year, and none of these are particularly 'unknown' (and very far away from obscure), but I hope BEA gives these slightly lesser-watched films a go—

Chronicles of a Wandering Saint
I got excited at the screenshot, assuming Roy Andersson must have made a new film that had evaded my notice.
Slightly disappointed that's not what this is, but still sounds really intriguing, gonna see if I can find it anywhere and give it a go. _________________ I wanna take Sean Penn

Hmm, your list covers many titles I plan to put on my own list. I'm not ready to post mine yet, but here are 10 movies that I will include, that are not on yours:
(in no particular order)
Love Lies Bleeding
Furiosa
Hit Man
Evil Does Not Exist
The Order
A Real Pain
Challengers
Anora
Longlegs
Drive-Away Dykes
Maybe you've seen these and didn't like them? Which is totally cool. Just throwing them out there. Evil Does Not Exist is excellent. That's very likely gonna be my #1 or #2. _________________ on such a winter's day

Have been trying to find Evil Does Not Exist because it sounds amazing.
The others I've quoted just weren't my thing, like I understand why other people liked them but it's just not my cup of tea (Sean Baker and Luca Guadagnino especially, I just can't get into them, anything from their filmographies, no idea why)
The ones I left out of the quote I haven't heard of or haven't looked for but I'll give 'em a go. _________________ I wanna take Sean Penn
