Sand? You must be thinking of something else. There is no sand in diamond painting.

Here's a very short video that shows what diamond painting is. It's a fairly new and very popular hobby. It has been described as a combination of cross-stitch (although you don't use a needle) and paint-by-number. The best thing about it is that you don't have to have any artistic talent at all to do it.
