You know what would kill music and music industry? Confused

Time Travel.

Especially if Time Travel was combined with the current state of affairs with illegal downloading. People would be going to the future, downloading pirate copies and taking them back to the present. Or maybe they are like honest and buy the copy in the future Think Anyway, the copy leaks back in the present and the artist or band hear it and listen to it themselves and never record it. Because of their lazyness, when people wake up the next day they will find the album is no longer in excistance. The band didn't have a desire to record it. Or maybe it changes into like this polka blues album that you were going to listen to once?

Also your favorite artist could be like 4 years old because your bad and illegally download future albums. So these albums will change according to how their day has gone. So people might start throwing other music into the playground to change him into Sonic Youth of Biffy Clyro or something like that. And if they are a teenager you might put them off music as they know how that turns out?

Would the memory of the music disappered if history was changed though? Think That is another factor which one has to consider. Maybe people would go into the past and give away music to artists who had died before it was released? Shocked Thus changing the music they make and changing the music they heard from the future, which changes the past artist even more as Fleet Foxes heard what a 60's artist would write if they had heard Fleet Foxes and changed their music even more Shocked Shocked Shocked

Now at this point we should be worried because I totally am. You could be working on a labour of love and someone could leak you're album from the future. So people are listening to the music you make 12 months before you record it in the studio. Who would want to buy the album then? How could you release a single? Music would die that's what would happen! Along with the music industry as people from the future come and give my music away! They are probably (could be, maybe) fonding space terrorism on the astroid belts. Who would want to pick up a guitar if they knew they were involved in such heinous acts?

Seriously, if time travel was around it would have a very bad effect on the music industry and music itself.

1. You will never be able to "kill" music. I don't think you get that.
A medium doesn't just "die". When the camera came out, painters didn't stop painting, even though technically painting is now a futile effort. And jeez, how many painters actually make cash now adays! Pfft, NONE! There's a reason they call them "starving artists" - and yet we have more visual art produced now than we ever did, and a lot more experimentation within the medium now that the medium isn't controlled by a business model the way music is NOW. The INDUSTRY will eventually die, but the medium itself will improve as an artform because of it.

2. Your time-travel theory is all wonky.
Ok, so, basically, in what your describing, we are creating a series of parallel timelines through our actions, and bringing music back from the "future" - only it isn't the "future" anymore because we've come back with stuff from the future therefore altering the present meaning that future no longer exists in that timeline; this would actually help the music industry.
Let's take Fleet Foxes, as you used them in your example:
I go into the future and take all of FF's future music and bring it back and release it pirated. Well, that future no longer exists, and due to my mingling Fleet Foxes will have never made that music, but they WILL still make music, which means they'll make DIFFERENT music over the course of the time during which I had pirated their original music in the first alternate timeline. Now, their full catalogue has doubled in length because of the creation of alternate timelines.
Alternatively, going back in time creates new timelines alternate to the timeline you originated in, so you aren't altering your timeline at all, because if you did so you'd create a paradox.
If you went back in time with the purpose of turning a musician off music and succeeded, you would have never gone back in time in the first place.

Oh no Shocked I was meant to write that it could come about no other way than time travel. Now certain elements of the forum will think that I thought it could happen and given me the same excuses thrown at the nme every 3 months when they write an article about it Sad
