  • Quote
A group I want to add is listed as "The Isbell Family" on Spotify, Apple Music, & Amazon. But the album cover says "Isbells". Should I add this group under the name that's on the album cover or the name that's on Spotify / Apple Music / Amazon?

There's already an indie folk band from Belgium called "Isbells" in the database, so definitely go with "The Isbell Family," I should think. Albummaster could always add an alias if anyone complains.

Oh, the group I want to add is a Southern Gospel group. I would have thought that the name on the album cover would be the one that should be used but I wasn't sure. I wonder why Spotify, etc. doesn't use the name on the album cover anyway.

Normally we use the name as it appears on the artwork. If the group's name changes over time, we'd add an alias so both albums get credited to the same artist. Sometimes the name is listed differently on the cover to the label (if a physical release), so we try to use a common sense approach. If two artists share the same name, we disambiguate using country of origin, active decade etc to distinguish between them. In this case, Isbells is on the cover so at first glance that's the one I'd personally go with (it can be edited afterwards if needed to distinguish it with the other group of the same name).

@albummaster Thanks. The other group is from Belgium so I could just add USA to the group I want to add.

Actually, it would be Isbells (US). The two letter country code is what has been used to differentiate these.

@Romanelli Thanks. I've already added the group and if I remember correctly, I think I did use US.
