Today in HMV I saw a little birdy on the shelf. It didn't tell me anything because it couldn't talk and it wasn't a birdy anyway but actually a CD so... yeah it was just a CD on the shelf. That is normal for a shop you know? Like seeing a CD on the shelf.

Anyway, on this shelf lay an album called 'Singles (2006-2011)' by a band called The Feeling.

What's that? The Feeling!? I'm so sure they released something earlier this year. A new album called 'Together We Were Made'. On the charts for a few weeks, single which never reached the top 100 (kind of embarrassing in the UK) and mostly bad reviews from magazines.

Only 5 years... 5 years when they released those kiddy sun shine tunes 'Fill My Little World' and 'Never Be Lonely'. They were fairly big... not huge, just a little big. Probably got a few compilations going around at the time. Certain publications gave good reviews (mostly the newspapers) and the same could be said about 'Join With Us'. That had a modest hit with 'I Thought It Was Over' which was oddly about some couple being separated after one escapes Eastern Europe and meeting again when the Berlin Wall fell. You know, something totally subversive for a top 10 hit. Nicky Wire would be proud... except he probably wasn't as The Feeling were one of the bands he ripped apart with his glitter laden talons and oh so shiny teeth.

Point is... these guys were fairly big at the time. Now however, it is like they sunk so low they actually decided not to split up to see how low you can get the band. And the answer? Releasing a singles collection after your third album and 5 years at it. Look at the cover. Go find the cover to this album on the internet now and tell me that a lot of effort has been put into that. You can't.

You know where i found it? This album in the store? The 2 for £10. Didn't reach the top 100 and out less than a month.

And don't get me started on what happened to The Fratellis. They fell hard, oh boy did they fell hard. At least they knew they did. Feeder of Seven Days In The Sun and Comfort In Sound fame are releasing an album next year. ANOTHER FEEDER ALBUM!? I can't believe this! But I can because it is happening.

Reading this made me think of The Music as well. 'The People' was huge in a few countries and then the second and third albums fell really flat. I liked them a lot but after relistening, it became mundane and predictable. Then their singles compilation (only from the first 2 albums, mind) came ot and announced the end of the band.
