I was all ready to make jokes about how this must be a 90s tournament, but this Water from Your Eyes song uses almost every 00s trick in the book. Some of that is charming, others a bit nausea-inducing. Nostalgia like this can be bi-polar. However, it's an easy vote for Annahstasia, a very recent discovery and I'm just loving this soulful take on introspective folk.
Fuck this is so hard because Villain is incredible but Playing Classics straight up sounds like the spyro the dragon soundtrack and I'm watching a speedrun for that *right now* so I have vote classics
Like both. Surprised I don't like "Playing Classics" a bit more considering my love for weirded-out, almost prog-gy indie rock, BUT honestly their sound lies a bit too close to that Wet Leg Sprechgesang style that everyone is pilfering right about now. Wouldn't be turning the dial, but don't know if I'd be buying the album based on this single.
Meanwhile, the vocals of Annahstasia are pretty awesome and I need a bit more of this in my diet.
Have to admit surprised by this one, just because I thought Villian would be a long-haul favorite, but I guess that's what you get with two song that give off very different energies.
