"My favorite Coltrane and one of my top five jazz albums. Lee Morgan is my favorite trumpet player, so the two of them together is great, but this is also the moment when John Coltrane begins to blossom. He's just on the edge of the innovations of Giant Steps, he had been studying, and his songwriting and arranging on the themes are great, with beautiful harmonies for the three horns. He has kicked the junk, his path is visible directly in front of him, and the whole album is a soaring, swinging celebration of what is to come. Glorious."
