The October site update has now been rolled out. This may look a little smaller on the surface than recent updates, but underneath contains a large number of smaller improvements and some overdue items from the backlog. There are also several larger features being worked on month to month, which won't become visible until they're ready, so look out for those in the next few updates.
Forum mentions on album pages
Forum mentions shown on album pages are now grouped by series. For example, all AOTD and chart movements posts are now grouped together rather than displaying every individual topic separately. Thanks to @Romanelli for the suggestion. This should make it easier to browse the different types of forum discussion.
Comment reactions
Reactions can now be made to comments in the same way as forum posts, making it easier to respond to a comment without having to write a reply. The existing Helpful vote remains alongside reactions. Helpful is intended to recognise particularly useful contributions and feeds into identifying the top comments etc, while reactions provide a more informal way of responding to what somebody has said. You can choose to receive notifications for comment reactions from your profile page (these are disabled by default).
Reinstatement of the Ignore option for the Collector's Summary
For people who use the Collector's Summary, the ‘Ignore’ option has been reinstated. This was an item on the 2026 roadmap and followed requests from @wooolf and @GrandmastaFro. Albums can now be flagged as ‘Ignored’, so they are excluded from Collector's Summary calculations. For example, if you're working your way through the overall chart but aren't interested in particular artists or types of music, you can ignore those albums rather than having them count as albums you need to listen to (or collect).
Ignoring an album does not hide it from charts or elsewhere on the site; it only affects your Collector's Summary. If you have the Collector's Summary disabled, the Ignore option won't be displayed.
Links to forum topics
‘Insert BEA link’ now allows you to insert links to other forum topics. These can be inserted into comments or forum posts as per a suggestion from @DommeDamian.
Artist disambiguators
Another item from the 2026 roadmap was to separate artist disambiguators from artist names, allowing artist names to be displayed more cleanly and consistently across the site (e.g. Nirvana (UK). Going forwards, separating the disambiguator from the artist name gives BEA the flexibility to display it where it's useful and leave it out where it isn't, without compromising the underlying data.
Album disambiguators may follow in a future update, although the release year is often sufficient to distinguish albums with the same title by the same artist. The plan is to let the artist disambiguator changes bed in first, identify any issues that arise, and then decide whether to extend the functionality to albums. There are a few exceptions where album disambiguators could be useful, so this remains a possibility for a future update.
Other changes
A number of smaller improvements and fixes have also been included in this update:
- Added ability to customise chart page to exclude decade charts and/or year charts (idea from @Jabapac)
- Fixed a crash on the home page if notification history contained deleted subscriptions.
- Monthly Changes forum post now links directly to the relevant overall chart and chart history pages.
- Latest Releases and the new Monthly Top New Releases posts now link directly to the relevant weekly/monthly pages.
- Added interaction icons to profile pages.
- Added Notification History to profile pages and removed it from the home page.
- Added comment reactions to activity streams.
- Fixed sorting by "Your rating" on some types of chart.
- Fixed AOTD top comments so that they have to come from two different users.
- Added a Follow us on Bluesky image to the Resources page.
- Helpful comments are now the default sort order for guests
- Fix bug on profile page saving collectors summary display preference
- Weekly 'New releases' post now highlights artists who've previously had a top 100 ranked album (instead of highlighting top 1,000 artists)
- Fixed styling of (disabled) user mentions if they appear inside a [quote]
- Further refinements to dark mode.
As always, thanks to everyone who continues to suggest improvements, report issues and help make BEA better. There are plenty more improvements in the pipeline. The aim over the remaining months of 2026 is to continue working through the roadmap, while progressing some of the larger features that have been under development behind the scenes.
