Though I don't nearly have the respect for TV that i have for music, there are still some excellent things that have been done with it.
I'm going to start with shows that are on the air now, I'll to all time later. So my choices would be (in no order):
Dexter
Weeds
Scrubs
The Wire
The Office
The Daily Show
The Colbert Report

I don't watch much TV any more, so these five from my past:

Monkey - mystical Japanese TV series about a Chinese buddhist monk
Mahabharat - Indian TV series (I'm interested in Eastern philosophies and religions)
Twin Peaks - for weirdness factor and music score
V - 80's sci-fi series about an alien invasion
Magic Roundabout - surreal five-minute animations
