How does the less well known Pink Floyd albums fare against the popular ones.Reviews wise seems to give these albums mixed ratings compared to the classics. So for those who have listened to their discography are these albums worth listening to?

1968-A Saucerful of Secrets
1969-Ummagumma
1970-Atom Heart Mother
1972-Obscured by Clouds
1983-The Final Cut
1987-A Momentary Lapse of Reason
1994-The Division Bell

As much as I'd hate to say it, Atom Heart Mother is the best of those.

I recommend "A Saucerful of Secrets" and "The Division Bell" highly. "A Saucerful of Secrets" is quite similar to "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" in style, but less freaked-out and silly with a much dreamier and ambient atmosphere. Highlights include "Remember a Day", the long instrumental title track and "See-Saw".

"The Division Bell" is completely different from "A Saucerful of Secrets", it's less psychedelic with few exceptions. I will admit that the band sounds more tired here than in their earlier days, but that said, I actually enjoy it more than "Wish You Were Here" at the moment. To describe the music style it's somewhere between "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wish You Were Here", generally very chilled out! Highlights include "What Do You Want from Me" (great guitar), the beautiful instrumental "Marooned", "A Great Day for Freedom" and the epic album and career closer "High Hopes".

I won't recommend "The Final Cut" which sounds like leftovers from "The Wall", just hundred times more boring! It's not really a bad album, but most of it sounds the same, stick to "The Wall" instead!

I haven't heard the rest of the albums you mentioned!

The first three are essential, the fourth and fifth are sorta decent, nothing special though, and the last two are terrible by their usual standards.

Funny how the list seems to be ranked in order from the best to the worst.

Pink Floyd is exceptional, a rare band of both quality (IMO) and popularity. I recommend all of it, although there is no need to rush through. You could find something that touches you where others have failed to make the same connection. For me, Ummagumma may be the greatest album ever. It gets mixed reviews, so clearly this is something individual to me and few others. Maybe you'll gain a similar experience in at least one their lesser known records.

I consider The Final Cut to be a good album. I'd check that out. 8/10

The Division Bell kinda sucked. I'd ignore that. Same with Atom Heart Mother.
