I'm listening a lot to a Russian post-punk group called ะะณะพั ะธ ะะฟะธะทะดะตะฝะตะฒัะธะต at the moment. Great music, but it just feels weird that I understand exactly zero of the lyrics. How does foreign languages that you don't understand affect your listening experience?
I'm a bit of a lyrics person so I like knowing what the lyrics are and thinking about them. However, I just listen to it a bit differently when listening to music in a foreign language. I just sort of listen to the singing as just another instrument. It's also quite fun to try to guess what they're saying. You could always look up a translation too, haha.
To be honest I listen to very little music for the lyrics,I'm more of a riffs and beats boy.It doesn't really bother me and I've gone weeks without listening to music without any lyrics,it happens around once a year where I get into an electronic music buzz.Although any foreign language music I've listened to have failed to capture my imagination and I have very little if any foreign language albums in my music library.So I probably wasn't the type of person you wanted to comment on this thread,my apologies.
Vocals are interesting for more reasons than lyrics. Lyrics add a certain depth, though. Sometimes I welcome it and sometime I don't. Depends on how it's done, or if I actually like the lyrics (I usually don't). It's hard to be bothered by bad lyrics in a language I don't understand.
