- Post subject: five musicians for the desert island
|
A top five thread has been done before (theharrisonfords), and I'm sure a favorite band thread has been done before but I don't remember it (it's also usually evident from a members chart, but what the hey). List and rank the top five musician discographies you would choose for the desert island. This is more of a favorite musician thread than a best discography thread, but interpret it however you want to...

Mine:
1. Joanna Newsom
2. Tortoise
3. Talk Talk
4. Dirty Three
5. Portishead
you would think I like post-rock, but anything I've heard from that genre past 2000 is not very exciting...

1. Tori Amos
2. Frank Zappa
3. Black Sabbath
4. Trent Reznor
5. Elephant Six
I calculate that, if I could have everything each artist has put out (with bootlegs equaling each artist's official album count), I'd have 270 albums

I think those 5 are as close as I could get to covering off my musical interests.

The Magic Band (all studio albums)
The Velvet Underground (the Peel Slowly and See box set, along with the 1969 Live album)
Faust (the original discography until IV only)
Syd Barrett (the two studio albums and Opel)
Neu! (the original discography until '75 only)/Jimi Hendrix (only the original Experience discography, and the Band of Gypsys album)
Contenders:
Can (I'm not sure about their work after Future Days though, some of it is not good enough....)
Pink Floyd (3/4 good or excellent, 1/4 mediocre or bad)

Can
Pink Floyd
Neil Young (including his Crazy Horse collabs)
Captain Beefheart
If Robert Wyatt includes Soft Machine, then him. If not, probably the Velvet Underground.
