I was wondering how we are supposed to handle these two sections separately. There is a section in the charts where you can write a note about each album. How do you guys approach this section differently from comments on an album's page? I was thinking about writing something more like a review in the album page and then writing my personal, more subjective reasons, in the notes that appear on my chart. Do you guys do something similar? Or only do one or the other? I would only use the notes section, but I do want the points from commenting on an album. Not that I'm a points fiend, but I do want to unlock the feature of making custom charts.

I tend to use album comments for giving my opinion on an album. I don't usually use album notes, but if I ever get around to making them, I would use them to justify the album's placement on my chart. A slight distinction, but an important one nonetheless.

For the notes I often write about what the album means to me because people are visiting my chart and presumably want to know about my judgement of things.
For comments though people are looking at the album, so I keep my comments more about the content of the album and what works and what doesn't.

Generally I review the album in my comments. Usually my album notes are used for where I found out about the album, the album compared to the works of the band, the album compared to that decade, and track picks.

Thanks guys. These are good ideas. I'll write them accordingly.

Yeah this is basically what I do. My album notes on my charts tend to be more wordy in giving my explanation for it's placement on the chart. Plus I have my favorite tracks on each album in the notes.
Also when I'm first getting to know an album, I'll typically leave an album comment early on, so it tends to be a first impression of sorts. If it ends up later making my chart the notes become more balanced thoughts as I know the album a bit better.

Sounds fab to me.

Yes, the point of the point system is to get people to participate to the site with comments and ratings and whatever so knock yourself out and score those points and feel good about it. Having features locked is both a curse and a blessing but I feel that you unlocking them will benefit both you and the site overall. I did have to go through a period when I was reposting my album notes on the album comments to get the points and yes, I did always tend to edit and remove the more personal dimension of my notes to keep it relevant in the album comment section. More comments, more notes, more ratings makes for a better site for everyone.
