What are your favorite lyrics to open an album?
The White Stripes- Elephant
song: Seven Nation Army
I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
The Wrens- The Meadowlands
song: The House That Guilt Built
It's been so long
Since you heard from me
Got a wife and kid
That I never see
And I'm nowhere near
What I dreamed I'd be
I can't believe
What life has done to me
Modest Mouse- The Moon And Antarctica
song: 3rd Planet
Everything that keeps me together is falling apart
I've got this thing that I consider my only art of fucking people over.
Radiohead- OK Computer
song: Airbag
In the next world war
In a jackknifed juggernaut
I am born again
Iron and Wine- The Shepherd's Dog
song: Pagan Angel And A Borrowed Car
Love was a promise made of smoke
In a frozen copse of trees
A bone cold and older than our bodies
Slowly floating in the sea
The Smashing Pumpkins- Adore
song: To Sheila
Twilight fades
Through blistered Avalon
The sky's cruel torch
On aching autobahn
Into the uncertain divide
We scream into the last divine
The Shins- Oh, Inverted World
song: Caring Is Creepy
I think i'll go home and mull this over
Before i cram it down my throat
At long last it's crashed, it's colossal mass
Has broken up into bits in my moat.
Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
song: I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
I am an American aquarium drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I'm hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you?

Efficiency and progress is ours once more
Now that we have the Neutron bomb
It's nice and quick and clean and gets things done
-Dead Kennedys- Kill the Poor (fresh fruit for rotting vegetables)
Somepeople was an angry thin skinned man,
couldn't get along with his one man band
-Andrew Bird- Minor Stab (Thrills)
lent you my favorite dictionary
came back with ripped out pages
stopped by so uninvited
wasted good silverware on you
-Low- Violence (Long Division)
and of course
MY SMILE IS STUCK, I CANNOT GO BACK TO YOUR FROWNLAAAAND

"It doesn't matter if we all die
Ambition in the back of a black car
In a high building there is so much to do
Going home time
A story on the radio" (The Cure, One Hundred Years)
"Let me take you on a trip
Around the world and back
And you won't have to move
You just sit still" (Depeche Mode, World in My Eyes)
"Welcome to the jungle we've got fun and games
We got everything you want honey, we know the names
We are the people that can find whatever you may need
If you got the money honey we got your disease" (Guns N' Roses, Welcome to the Jungle)
"A cheep holiday in other peoples misery
I don't wanna holiday in the sun
I wanna go to the new belsen
I wanna see some history
'cause now i got a reasonable economy" (Sex Pistols, Holiday in the Sun)

Arcade Fire - Funeral
Neighborhood #1
And if the snow buries my,
My neighborhood
And if my parents are crying
Then I'll dig a tunnel
From my window to yours

Funkadelic- Maggot Brain
Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time
For y'all have knocked her up.
I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe
I was not offended
For I knew I had to rise above it all
Or drown in my own shit.
Really memorable, especially because they do a great job of setting the mood for one of my favorite songs ever.

Pink Floyd's The Wall - In the Flesh:
"So ya
Thought ya
Might like to
Go to the show.
To feel that warm thrill of confusion,
That space cadet glow."
(though technically, the first lyrics are "... we came in?", but that only makes sense if you've heard the end of the album.

First thing that came to mind:
"When I was little, my father was famous
He was the greatest samurai in the empire
And he was the Shogun's decapitator
He cut off the heads of a hundred and thirty-one lords
It was a bad time for the empire
The Shogun just stayed inside his castle and he never came out
People said his brain was infected by devils
My father would come home, he would forget about the killings
He wasn't scared of the Shogun, but the Shogun was scared of him
Maybe that was the problem
Then, one night, the Shogun sent his ninja spies to our house
They were supposed to kill my father,s but they didn't
{*woman screams*}
That was the night everything changed..."
(If you're dumb or something it's from Liquid Swords)

The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
And the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
And a dark wind blows
The government is corrupt
And we're on so many drugs
With the radio on and the curtains drawn
We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
And the machine is bleeding to death
The sun has fallen down
And the billboards are all leering
And the flags are all dead at the top of their poles
