What well-known songs have lyrics that you find offensive?

I'm usually pretty OK with almost any lyrics, from Carrie Underwood to N.W.A., but the one song that really bothers me is "No One Else" by Weezer. The patriarchy just doesn't rest well with me at all. In fact, that one song is the reason I don't listen to the Blue Album as much.

'No One Else' is not supposed to be taken seriously. It's a song exposing all the worst parts of being in a relationship, and it's a pretty clever one at that. I'm not saying for certain that Rivers isn't a completely jealous prick, but anyone who has never (at least fleetingly) thought some of the things in that song hasn't been in a relationship.

'Back Like That' by Ghostface always gets me though. Just listen to it if you want to know what I mean. The difference between 'Back Like That' and 'No One Else' is that whilst Rivers' protagonist is obviously exaggerated, Ghost's is scarily believable. It's still a banging song though, and one of my favourites by Ghostface, but I have a hard time defending the lyrics.

To me, the poetic value of lyrics is much more substantial than the actual message. I guess that doesn't really make much sense, but for some reason lyrics that are homophobic or misogynistic or whatever just don't offend me that much if they're well-written lyrics. Eminem, for example, has plenty of songs laden with homophobia and misogyny, but they're so damn clever and the sincerity is so questionable that I don't even mind, whereas the average gangster rapper singing about the same things would probably piss me off a lot more. I don't know, it's kind of a gray area, if you ask me.

'Sex Type Thing' by Stone Temple Pilots is similar. He's not assuming the role of a date rapist, he's exposing the awful thinking behind it.

Sorry for somewhat derailing the thread. I just want to point out that the 4chan post was a response to the perception of "patriarchy." Like No One Else, it was satirical. I'm fully aware of slut shaming, skewed media, and any other modern-equality ideal you want to throw out, but the moment you use the words patriarchy or feminism lightly I lose all respect for anything you say on the matter. The term feminism implies people are fighting for equality just for women; the term patriarchy implies it is just males stifling an advance towards equality.

You don't respect a woman for being a woman.
You don't respect a man for being a man.
You respect a person because they're a fucking person.
We are all affected by gender inequality.

I'm off my soapbox now.

Male inequality stems from patriarchy, just as female inequality does.

Most of men's "disadvantages" come from an assertion that men are the stronger and more competent gender. Things such as how only men can be drafted stem from an idea that women just "aren't prepared for such a responsibility as they are weak and generally inferior."

The goal of feminism in the slow eradication of the patriarchy eliminates all such gender inequalities. So, yes, the feminists are right. Men are merely "victims" of a system that victimizes them solely by assuming they're better than women.

I see what you're saying. I support the idea behind feminism. However, many feminists have some radical ideas and are actually trying to gain power over men. They have also brought double standards to society. Here are some videos exposing this:

I believe in equality for both genders. Neither gender should have power over another. Both genders should be equal. Sexism is a humanity problem, not a gender problem. That is why I oppose the terms Misandry and Misogyny.
