The 80s had the happiest music, so statement doesn't make sense unless you're referring to something else than music. Also, Pixies are highly inferior to other great 80s music:

Congrats on listening to the pixies! another great 80s band that I think you'll dig is The Gun Club. Especially the album "Fire of Love" from '81. I hear some influences they had on Frank Black and the Pixies. They also influenced The White Stripes pretty big. Early WS.

The bass was cool, but the rest was really really horrible.
