I think it's completely bland and boring. I may "get it" someday, though, but for now it's really painful for me to go through the entirity of this.

I can definitely see how some of you think this is boring. I personally find this too be an enchanting, cohesive, emotional experience though.

Really like this one.

Sigur Ros's albums are ranked as they should be on this site.

This.

That said, it isn't painful for me to listen to, nor unpleasant really. Just sort of there.

Simply, this is the best you can expect from music. The reason that word is bold here is that this record is music in its purest. The idea of taking the sound of the human voice to incorporate into your overall highly-textured sound with a use of falsetto that cannot be topped and lyrics that have been chosen for their empty sound is the nearest you can get to separate music from literature in popular culture. This is where you can evaluate the use of voice as a conveyor of emotions and significance without resorting to overused lyrical imagery. This is simply inventing your own imagery with something new and unique. As for other instruments than voice, it's even more careful, inventive, and emotionally away from kitsch towards a powerful, well-thought combination of melodies, riffs and drones which make for complex and hence far from your average acoustic-guitar-guy-with-his-miserable-sense-of-harmony delivery of sound (i.e. essence of music) examples of which is amply spawned with their never-ending drone of unintended cartoon emulations of the worst stories of better writers. This is not what you get from 2 week rehearsals and yeah-fuck-orchestration coz my-voice-is full-of-soul-and-I-have-stories-from-past-unlike-anything-else (you wish). This is music for music (and music-for-music is the most human of them all). These heavily unfolding melodies and textured drones with delicate and graceful rhythmic progressions, these melodious interplay of harmonies take time to be perfected and they are not there to sound perfect but they are there because of the mind of the artist; and believe me or not, mind is a complex organ so if you get the sound right with time-consuming perfection you have created masterpiece. Bow down to masterpiece ladies and gentlemen.
