Love the Kinks inclusions, but in general this list is pretty awful.

For someone who obviously likes a lot of the same music as me,I find it strange that I hate this list.

Making a concerted effort to not include the obvious "classic" choices is not necessarily a bad thing. However, if that means that you end up with Van Halen's Diver Down at #13 on your chart then the effort has failed to produce a worthy alternative.
