I read something Evandar posted about how Alice Cooper's new works are not on par with his earlier stuff. I see that as a challenge, since I don't think Evandar has listened to a lot of his newer albums. It's like Pokemon Black and White. The only people who don't like Black and White are those who've never played it. Well, this thread is for posting your thought about Alice Cooper's music. I wanted to continue this conversation on the thread Evandar posted on, but I didn't want to ruin the thread with my arguments.

And, try out Dragontown! Donlt make a FINAL assumption until or unless you've heard one of the following: Dragontown, Brutal Planet, Welcom 2 My Nightmare, or Along Came a Spider.

Personally, I don't see what the hype is about the band Alice Cooper before he went solo. They're good albums, but I can't get into the earlier stuff the way I get into the new stuff.

One more thing: I don't care if this thread is pointless.

Alice Cooper started out as a band with a singer who took the name Alice Cooper. They made a couple of fairly bad psychedelic albums at the end of the 60's, then released two very, very good albums: Love It To Death and Killer. As Alice Cooper the band turned into Alice Cooper the solo artist, their output got more and more sporadic. Alice began to depend more and more on the gimmick as his songwriting continued to deteriorate. By the 80's, Alice was pretty much a cartoon carachter...but he's a very smart man, and he knew that, and he's been playing it for all it's worth ever since...and it's been worth a lot.

In my opinion, there are exactly three Alice Cooper albums worth having: Love It To Death, Killer, and Greatest Hits from 1974, which covers the career of Alice Cooper the band, and has everything from the rest of those albums with value. Since 1974, Cooper has barely enough good material to fill out one decent compilation album. His albums since that time have been gimmicky and mostly very bad, with an occasional one off single every decade or so ("Hey Stoopid", "Poison").

So, my answer to your question is that I agree with Evander's assessment. I don't believe that the solo career of Alice Cooper measures up at all with the short career of Alice Cooper the band.

This is a poor simile. I'll need to see your data on this stat.

I urge you to reread my post, I said nothing about his "new works", I was just talking about "Lace and Whiskey". But, in general, you are actually right, as I feel any album after "Welcome to My Nightmare" is mediocre at best. But you're also wrong in that I haven't listened to a lot of his newer albums, as I've listened to most of them, and many of them thoroughly, so I definitely have an informed opinion. "Dragontown" is not my thing.

Romanelli makes a decent point. I really wish they would have stayed as a band. That being said, there are some solid albums that are worth checking out that Romanelli didn't mention. Billion Dollar Babies, although that was still with the band, his solo debut, Welcome to My Nightmare, and if you want some of his more 80s glam stuff, Trash.

Good points, but I'll reiterate this: Donlt make a FINAL assumption until or unless you've heard one of the following: Dragontown, Brutal Planet, Welcom 2 My Nightmare, or Along Came a Spider.

As for Evandar's post, thanks for clearing that up.

I've heard them all except for "Welcome 2 My Nightmare", and no, they dont do it for me. :p Maybe I will revisit Alice Cooper again some day, but as of now I'm quite content with liking some early albums plus a few select later songs.

The 1974 Greatest Hits is dope. There's little else he's done that I care for.

I'm really glad they included his cover of Hello Hooray on that. That's easily my favorite song of his and I certainly prefer it to the original.

Reading your comments gave me a theory... Maybe I like the modern Alice Cooper more because that's the kind of music I thought he did before I actually started listening to his albums.

But I still wasn't as impressed with Killers at the end, and Pretties for You was overall a bomb. Billion Dollar babies was good, and the last album of the full band I have to hear is Muscle of Love.
