  • Quote
Couldn't quite come up with a title that really encompassed what I'm trying to ask.
What do you think of when you listen to music?
I do NOT mean what memories it brings up.
What I mean is, how do you imagine the sound of the music? Colors? Shapes? A dance?
Personally, when I listen to music, I listen to it as though I'm the performer and how I would be moving, what expressions I would be making, etc.

1. The band/artist playing in studio.
2. Scenes of movies that do not exist (mostly while reading the lyrics).
3. My computer screen.

I see scenes depending on the music. They're sometimes fairly abstract, but they're almost always natural landscapes.

Either a scene or a landscape, or a blurry mix of both. It's usually the music I consider the best the ones which evokes clearer images, while the ones I don't like so much tend to evoke very weak images or none at all.

this is the most common one for me.

a couple of recent examples that came up;

'broken heart' by spiritualized plays at a climatic scene where the universe is completely destroyed.

'lovers in japan acoustic version' by coldplay plays at the end of a romantic drama where a couple decide to go their separate ways.

etc
etc

I guess I'm boring. Sometimes I'll picture the artist in the studio or something, but usually I just clear my mind's eye and try not to see anything (that way I can focus solely on the music).

For me it's a lot of colors and shapes and shit. But sometimes I can do the thing where I see myself as the performer, or even as an audience member at a performance. Also sometimes I guess I just picture whatever the immediate lyric is saying, but that usually just gives in to colors and shapes.
