How about we enabled the upvoting of forum posts and made a parallel "post quality" ranking parallel to the actual "quantity" one? This ranking would be a count of all the positive votes you've received, or perhaps use some more complex equation using the amount of positive votes as a base. Some users seem to think it's a race to the top and post non-stop. If we implemented this, people would want to climb the "quality" ranking by making more thoughtful posts instead of inane ones. Possibly we could enable this only on the Music forum. This wouldn't mean downvotes, though, just upvotes.
Thoughts?

I really like it, I think having only upvotes is a great idea.

People tend to just upvote what they agree with over anything else. Having no negatives doesn't change this.
I think there's been a thread on this before.

Also people tend to upvote their friends. Circlejerks man.
It's not that I'm against a system that encourages quality over quantity. I'm just not sure if this works.

I think there are fewer circlejerks atm than ever before, with the recent changes in the userlist. Anyways, some people give their friends 100's on their charts too, but the system still kinda works.

I think there's a good idea here: a system that encourages quality posts.
But a bad solution: through an upvoting system

Not sure about this, up/downvoting can lead to certain users voting based on their opinion of the user rather than the quality of the post. It's petty, but I've seen it on other sites. _________________

OK so post-votes are out. It'd still be nice to have incentives to have more quality posts/less quantity.

I know a couple of forums give top contributors a meaningless star or other visual cue in their profile. These stars are usally given out by mods or voted on by the community (I prefer the mod given route, no one likes popularity contests)
While I like that route because it gives people something to strive for in the forum. However, I kinda think BEA is to small to warrant something like that. Everyone here already knows who is going to be making the well thought out posts and who is making the fluff posts. _________________ Alt Right meme game on point
