...but it'll take awhile to overlap the influence of Purple. Even without some of the more contentious postings, he helped push this site forward. And he's the only one who tried to find aboriginal music for me. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.
Mercury is a great guy. He has nice tastes, strong opinions and is always enthusiastic. That said, I don't like his yay's and his yo's and sometimes he's just doing too much. It feels unnatural. I don't know. There's something wrong, but I can't really put my finger on it. Don't get me wrong, though : he's lovable and his presence is a great addition to the site.
purple, on the other hand, is a kind of living legend. The problem is that I wasn't really here while he was active. His posts were already rarer and rarer, and he left quite quickly. I see how he's worshipped to this day, but I didn't really live it. That said, the posts I actually read were fantastic. He was one of the most interesting users around. The main problem is that his rebirth as ppnw is unbearable. He has made a few great posts, mostly in the tournaments sections, but otherwise he has mostly been picking on other users. I might be wrong, though, but he just gives me a feeling of a user who has nothing more to say and thus just mocks people. I don't really like that.
I think I'll vote for Mercury just because of ppnw.
I've never understood the "greatness" behind Purple. I liked Purple to quite some extent, great member, but I don't consider him legendary in any sense. Perhaps him being legendary was prior to my time.
On the other hand, Mercurydylan certainly got on my good side (I liked those anniversary things he did a while ago), and I think he's pretty chill. I liked him almost all the time or at least I've never disliked him or any of his posts. I can't exactly say that about Purple though he is (Purple) still pretty chill.
I would have voted for purple if he hadn't come back. Kind of like when your favorite band reunites after a great career and a ten year breakup...they're never the same afterward. To me, Purple is now like Don Henley and ppnw is Glenn Frey. I don't care. Purple lost it for me when he came back. If you're going to leave, that's one thing. But if you're going to go as far as having your entire account burned down so you can go out (at a very opportune time) in a blaze of glory, please don't come back. What a letdown. Your legend fades every day now...instead of growing.
mercurydylan loves baseball, and mercurydylan love Uncle Tupelo. My MAN! _________________ I'm leaning on the threshold

Brilliant analogy, fits perfectly in this case.
I have such an intense man crush on purple however that he still get's my vote easily. He was a pioneer of BEA who's contributions can't be overstated. Brilliant balance of humor and substance in his posts. Honestly I'm extremely suprised this matchup is so close to this point. I think a lot of newer users missed the glory days of Purple when he was very active and his extensive musical knowledge and overall intelligence was on full display. I miss you Purple ๐ข .
