As the title says, what are some songs where actually the chorus feels a little bit more of an after-thought than the verse?

I think both the chorus and verses are strong on your one Punchy. It's the best on the album along with The Infanta.

Most obvious one for me:

(rather lazy chorus)

Others:

Subterranean Homesick Alien - Radiohead
Fade to Black (if you can call it a chorus) - Metallica
Come as You Are - Nirvana

Now you mention it... I can't think of a great Muse chorus. A lot of them blend into verses or are very small parts of the song. You don't get anything like Rush's 'Freewill'. Shocked

Definitely agree with this one.

Queen's "We Are the Champions" would also work.

The Strokes' "All the Time". Decent verse, god-awful chorus. Like actually the worse song I've heard this year.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single chorus I think is bad. I can say with complete confidence that Creed choruses are the funnest thing to sing.

I think a lot of really good lyricists struggle with this. The Decemberists are a great example. They'll wax poetic for several lines and create all sorts of beautiful imagery, then they'll have to somehow top it with a catchy chorus. Bob Dylan mostly bypassed this problem by omitting or majorly shortening his choruses to the point where they acted more like a period than a climax. Highway 61 revisited is a great example. I think the only songs on there with a prominent chorus are "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Tombstone Blues," and even the latter flows pretty smoothly with the verse.
