Much deserved? How do people feel about this?

I haven't listened to much of his solo stuff (only Stanly Road, Heavy Soul and 22 Dreams). I don't listen to any of it regularly though. I liked his work more back in The Jam and The Style Council. I'm a huge fan of the first Jam album, might put that one in my chart soon 😜

He has been a constant figure in music for some time. And each project (The Jam, Style Council and solo stuff) all show a different facet of his musicality.

Personally, I like the solo albums. Wild Wood is a brilliant album that displays his songwriting talent as well. The Jam is one band I am still discovering.

At one time, I wholeheartedly would have agreed. I was a huge Jam fan and still am a little. The Style Council stuff is hit and miss. As for his solo material, I stopped following him after Wild Wood, a so-so album. I know someone who swears by his solo stuff though. I don't know. The term, "Godlike," seems kind of over the top. I'd rank Ray Davies, David Bowie, Joe Strummer, Lennon / McCartney and Pete Townshend all ahead of him though.

Not genius at all: when I think music I could probably come up with a thousand more valid "geniuses" before ever thinking of him. The Jam is great, but not genius.

The Jam has to be one of the most overrated bands ever.

Totally disagree and here's why: Look at the punk period. The average music fan has probably heard of The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, and maybe Iggy Pop and /or The Stooges. Ask that same music fan who The Jam is. I bet you they've never heard of them. The punk band that is the most overrated is The Sex Pistols. The Jam are underrated, if anything. If one looks at Weller's songwriting talent and the musical versatility of the band, they were one of the most talented bands to come out of that era. I still wouldn't call Paul Weller Godlike though.

Like you all said, Paul Weller is good, but not genius worthy. The Jam is pretty good though.
