  • Post subject: The Compliment Thread
There's no point denying it. Every now and then we all get a little down in the dumps. Sometimes school's not going so great, or we have a fight with a friend or family member, or maybe we're just not feelin' up to the challenge of life for one reason or another. On these days, I'm sure we can all agree that it makes a huge difference to be reminded that there are people out there who care about us, that there are things we're good at, and that we're in general just not as worthless as we can sometimes feel. After all, if we had a few more "pleases" and "thank yous" going around, or maybe even a "hey, you did a great job with such-and-such the other day" every now and then, that wouldn't hurt anybody, would it?

With this in mind, I hereby declare this the official compliment thread of BEA! Here are the rules:

1. If you're having a bad day or just feelin' down for one reason or another, then feel free to post about it here.

2. If someone makes a comment as mentioned in rule 1, then, if you can spare it, take a few seconds to say something nice about that person. It doesn't have to be super insightful, though creative compliments are certainly encouraged. It can be as simple as "I think it's really cool that you like <insert band name here>" or "I though that comment you made that one time was pretty clever".

3. If someone compliments you, you have to compliment them back. Don't worry, this isn't as stressful as it sounds. I'm sure we'll all find it's much easier to be nice to one another than we might have thought Very Happy

4. No need to wait for someone to ask for a compliment to compliment them. If you have something nice to say about somebody, go for it!

5. POSITIVE COMMENTS ONLY. I agree that there is a time and place for criticism, but this thread is not it. If you have something nasty to say, then take it to a different thread or PM.

6. Feel free to say as much or as little about what's getting you down. If you're really bummed out and it's for a really personal reason, no need to go into detail. If you need a picker-upper, we'll be here for ya Very Happy

So that's all for now! To get the ball rolling, I'd just like to say that I love every single user on this site. Every one of you brings a unique flavor to the forums, and I think the diversity of personalities we have here on BEA is a big part of what makes this site so special.

I think it's cool how we've gone this long without this turning into a thinly-veiled insult thread.
