Couldn't find this anywhere else, but feel free to hit me on the head if there's already a thread about this. Following up on the comment from Badfaith about losing interest after the debut album, it still seems to me that the debut rarely is an artist's best album. Here, then, are the top 10 debut albums of all time:

1. AC/DC - High Voltage (1975)
2. Bruce Springsteen - Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ (1973) Later topped by The Wild, The Innocent...
3. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd (1973)
4. Kris Kristofferson - Kristofferson (1970)
5. Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood (1983)
6. Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction (1987)
7. Taj Mahal - Taj Mahal (1968)
8. Santana - Santana (1969) - Later topped by both Abraxas and Santana III
9. Van Halen - Van Halen (1978)
10. Little Richard - Here's Little Richard (1957)

For eight of the artists above they never managed to top their debut, but as I was looking further down my list this turned out to be a fairly rare phenomenon. In total there are 15 debut albums on my top 100. Anyone counted how many there are on the overall top 100?

OK, I'm gonna be pretty strict with this list, not allowing things like Little Earthquakes or Jagged Little Pill on here, since technically they made smaller albums before those.

1. Weezer-The Blue Album
2. Evanescence-Fallen
3. Arcade Fire-Funeral
4. Vanessa Carlton-Be Not Nobody
5. Black Sabbath-Black Sabbath
6. Jeff Buckley-Grace
7. Pink Floyd-The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
8. Diablo Swing Orchestra-The Butcher's Ballroom
9. Machinae Supremacy-Deus Ex Machinae
10.Patti Smith-Horses[/i]

No ranking for me, but here's a listing of great debuts I'm familiar with nonetheless.

Liquidizer - Jesus Jones
Definitely Maybe - Oasis
Hot Fuss - The Killers
Hopes and Fears - Keane (I still say it's the best of their three releases)
Fuzzy - Grant Lee Buffalo
Resident Alien - Spacehog (did they ever even follow it up?)
The Presidents of the United States Of America - The Presidents of the United States of America (a snarky album but with a lot of charm)
Sixteen Stone - Bush (all downhill from there)
Ten - Pearl Jam
Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes

Great album, but not their debut. Music from Big Pink preceded it with more than a year.
