Because sometimes people like some dark music in their lives. Too boring living in the light and the other side must be present if there is to be light. Happiness would mean a whole lot less without unhappiness.

What albums do you have? I'll post some obvious ones to get the thing going:

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Nirvana - In Utero
Eels - Beautiful Freak
Depeche Mode - Violater
Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska
The Cure - Pornography

Most of my overall chart is pretty dark, with a view rays of light creeping through now and again.

yourself | Unpleasant

I have a chart of dark music!!!! (though its far from complete in that there are lots of things I could add if I ever finish listening to half of them)

Specific suggestions:
-Early Swans records and Godflesh get the suffocating self-loathing misanthropic hatred sound perfectly
-Gnaw Their Tongues, listened to in the right mood are probably the scariest music I've heard, way more than even stuff like Scott Walker, the second half of Trist's Hin Fort and Diamanda Galas come the closest after
-Elegi, Jandek and Nico sound the most isolated and painfully lonely

Sad music like Eels doesn't sound dark to me, it sounds sad.

Edit: Also if we want to delve into modern classical some of Penderecki's stuff obviously is up there, Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire also springs to mind as creepy in a jagged expressionistic way.

Oh, you've hit a thread for me. Muahahahaha. Nothing that anyone's already posted, if I can help it.

Half Mute - Tuxedomoon
In The Flat Field - Bauhaus
The Queen Is Dead - The Smiths
Antics - Interpol
She Wants Revenge - She Wants Revenge
The Hurting - Tears for Fears
Starfish - The Church
To Lose My Life ... - White Lies
Sea Change - Beck
Les Bains Douches (Live) - Joy Division
Holy Weather - Civil Twilight
Stay In The Shade - Jose Gonzales
Electro-Shock Blues - Eels

Questionably Dark (They're dark to me but maybe not to others):
Foiled - Blue October
Any Man In America - Blue October
69 Love Songs - Magnetic Fields
Plans - DCFC
For Emma Forever Ago - Bon Iver

There's a lot more, that's just a best of (with those already mentioned removed) in my eyes.
