I remember John Darnielle saying this was his favorite death metal (wouldn't call it death metal myself) album in an interview (or something along the lines of that). It's a great one btw so I'd definitely recommend it.

Nah its definitely not death metal. Some put this as black metal, but I tend to think it's more because it influenced the genre rather than it belongs in that tag.

Ill agree with you tho, it's great. One of my fav heavy metal albums.

I think I slightly prefer Melissa, even if just for the song "Evil" which is one of my favorite songs ever. This is a really solid album though.
