Well I can't stand what little I've heard of Shimabukuro's stuff and really have no intention of checking him out further, but I don't care for David Byrne's solo stuff on the whole either. Rei Momo is alright I guess, not really my thing but tolerable, but my two favourite non-Talking Heads Byrne efforts were collaborative (Bush of Ghosts and that album with St. Vincent). Gonna abstain.

It does pain me I can't use those. But I'll use what I've got.

I quite like Byrne's solo output (much better than late Talking Hedas for instance).
I don't know that other fellow, convince me he's better.

I find Jake Shimabukuro's music to be far too inoffensive for me.
So I guess I'll have to go with David Byrne by default... even though I just tried Rei Momo and disliked it strongly. I still associate Byrne with albums I enjoy like "Remain in Light" and "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts", so I'll vote for Byrne. If I had enjoyed Shimabukuro's album, maybe my vote would have went the other way.

Saying someone's music is far too inoffensive is silly.

No, it isn't. It's a perfectly valid criticism.

Some synonyms to innoffensive: unexceptionable, mild, tame.

I think the word you're looking for is mediocre. inoffensive is a bad choice. I'd rather not listen to offensive music.
