Just something that would look nice - nowhere near an important feature: having the accolades ( ) on the album pages in different colours. Something like top 5 = red / top 10 = orange / and so on with top 25,50,100,250,500 ... as yellow, green, blue, light gray ... . For the top 3 we could have gold/silver/bronze and a slightly different image.

I know albummaster is having his hands full and this is not important at all. I just wanted to share the thought.

Good idea, I think the current set-up could definitely be improved. Too many different colours might be confusing but I think everyone understands gold, silver, bronze and perhaps the rest could just a have a small label or something underneath to annotate the rank e.g.

I like the accolade symbol saying maybe "top 5" and that with a red ribbon, but to clarify are you saying the text would become gold for 1, silver for 2, etc or just the ribbon?

not sure if you are referring to the colour of the text, but probably just the graphic would be gold, silver, bronze, as the text would be too difficult to read otherwise (gold or silver text wouldn't show up very well on a white background & probably needs a label as well to make things more clear). Obviously, the previous message was just a mock up and would be a bit different if it's implemented.

No I think gold, silver, and bronze text would be silly, but that's what I thought the suggestion was at first. Does he mean that the accolade symbol on the album page where it says for instance "Best album of all time" for OK Computer would change gold?

Some clarification: the colour of the symbol/figure would vary with the position of the album. Naturaly not the text. As for the color of the symbols: I believe it would be best to have 3 to 5 categories. More would be annoying. I think this also means that gold/silver/bronze or positions 1 to 3 wouldn't work. Perhaps it's better to have one of these: (a to e are all independent, different suggestions, others are possible, tis just to give an idea)

additional notes:
1) You could use a different situation for year / decade and overall. (e.g.: year => (b); decade (c); overall (d))
2) The symbols would look like:

(But then better quality, duh, this is only powerpoint)
3) You could still have gold/silver /bronze, but then I would use another image.

Well, this is roughly how I imagined it. I'm glad to have some repplies here.

I like this idea. Use plan (a) for years, (c) for decades, and plan (e) for overall. Gold/Silver/Bronze Medals for top 3.

I also like it. Just for info, these are current divisions (with medals merged in) and a few adjustments to see how it might look. The different bands need to be seen as equivalent between the different aggregated charts. I'm not sure everything is quite right in that regard at the moment, so needs a little more tweaking. For example, Band 5 in a year chart would be much easier to achieve for most albums than Band 5 in the overall chart.

I also like the colours that were presented (looks similar to a 'heat map' going from hot to cold, so intuitive to look at).

Overall
[Medals for top 3 albums of all time]
Band 1: Top 20 albums of all time
Band 2: Top 100 albums of all time
Band 3: Top 200 albums of all time
Band 4: Top 500 albums of all time
Band 5: Top 1,000 albums of all time

Decade
[Medals for top 3 albums in decade]
Band 1: Top 10 albums of decade
Band 2: Top 50 albums of decade
Band 3: Top 100 albums of decade
Band 4: Top 200 albums of decade
Band 5: Top 500 albums of decade

Year
[Medals for top 3 albums in year]
Band 1: Top 5 albums of year
Band 2: Top 10 albums of year
Band 3: Top 20 albums of year
Band 4: Top 50 albums of year
Band 5: Top 100 albums of year

Yes, but if you would want fully equivalent bands (let's call it bins, I was confused wit musicbands), that's gonna be difficult. Because for most years, top 100 corresponds to top 3000-5000 overall [or worse*]. (and position 2547 isn't exactly worth an accolade imho). So, the system we have now is actually good, I believe.

Also, is it technically easy/possible/do-able to add a ranking per country? (proposal: for 'hot' countries, following decade bins, for other countries, following year bins). 'Hot' being uk, usa, canada, ireland

Sounds like a great idea to me. We could also include these on charts.
