I was reading the other thread about how the classic album is dying and while I think that is true this decade has produced a few very good albums. Here are my favourites. Not very much but I haven't heard as much full modern albums as I want to.

A Rush Of Blood To The Head - Coldplay
Hotfuss - The Killers
O - Damien Rice

Kid A - Radiohead
You'll Rebel To Anything - Mindless Self Indulgence

i think its the only great albums that has been released in a long time. we are now having a wave of garbage as an excuse for music, all those dancer/model/actress/singer celebrities. really annoying these people don't have talent yet they are somehow selling albums.

I was having a re-think earlier about this and I thought to myself that maybe we don't really appreciate at the time what a classic album is but only when we look back retrospectively can we see the stand-out albums of the period.

Radiohead are like a modern-day Pink Floyd, maybe not exactly the same musically because things have evolved since the 70's, but they still have that deepness to them that other modern bands lack.

I agree with the Killers as well, I like them a lot. Musically, I don't think they have the same depth as Radiohead but they are enjoyable to listen to and that's an important attribute for any band! Coldplay are great musicians too. I liked their Parachutes album the most.

Other bands maybe worth a shout:
The White Stripes
Muse
Green Day

oh yeah i almost forgot about The White Stripes' actually they are not bad as well. compared to some other modern acts they are great.

and i agree that you can see the best album of the period by looking back but you can still know what albums are going to be remembered and what will be forgotten.

Heavens, I know what you mean. Simply a death of possible contenders since the end of the '90s, and the number of great artists releasing their best material has perhaps never been smaller.

Here's a few possible bands/artists who might be able to feature in lists in years' to come... I'll leave it up to others to debate which albums represent their best work..

Coldplay (obviously..)
The Libertines
White Stripes, Racouteurs
Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura (a couple of my favourite bands)
PJ Harvey
The Darkness
Dido
Goldfrapp
Sissor Sisters

Unfotunately, I don't think there has been a single true masterpiece this decade. I did enjoy two albums from this year quite a bit, though I think they fall significantly short of being masterworks:

Ys-Joanna Newsom
Return To Cookie Mountain-TV on the Radio

Probably the closest album of this decade to being a masterpiece would be Amassed-Spring Heel Jack. Some others that aren't too far behind are Top Dollar-Toby Dammitt & Amsterdam-Lofty Pillars. Amsterdam is the only one I'd recommend to someone who isn't very familiar with the avant-garde.

The 21st century has produced some good stuff so far. Great albums have been made, but nothing close to perfect.

From what I've heard, I'd call these albums the best of the 21st Century so far:

-Radiohead - Kid A
-The Arcade Fire - Funeral
-Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
-Sigur Rรณs - รgรฆtis Byrjun
-Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
-Explosions in the Sky - Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever
-Godspeed You! Black Emporer - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven

2006 was much better then 2005 though. Lets hope something good will come.
Btw i think Return To Cookie Mountain was really good...so here are few albums that lately have made me listen...

1.Sigur Rรณs - รgรฆtis Byrjun
2.Radiohead - Kid A
3.Tv On The Radio - Return To Cookie Mountain
4.White Stripes - Elephant, De Stijl, White Stripes, Get Behind Me Satan

I think the Stripes have proven to be the best band lately, with their good(some even great) albums and their awesome live acts!
