The Beatles (The White Album)United Kingdom The Beatles
As amazing as any album in history. It took me about 40 years but I finally began to enjoy Revolution 9 and now actually love it along with the rest of the album. The Beatles may have been falling apart at the time but it made for a tremendous artistic achievement.

Sunshine Daydream (Veneta, Oregon 8/27/72)United States Grateful Dead
The greatest concert from the greatest live act of all-time, released in stunning HDCD quality, This is transcendent music. The Playing in The Band and Dark Star are especially Mind blowing as is the China Cat Sunflower-> I know You Rider pairing. A benefit Concert for The Creamery. There is plenty of video on youtube from the show, and there was a dvd released with the cd, well worth watching for any Classic Rock fan. The El paso and Sing Me back Home covers are phenomenal.

Trout Mask ReplicaUnited States Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band
The most creative Record every recorded. Pure genius that took me several listens to get. A complex and demanding double album that is best when consumed as one session. Legendary for a reason this is the only album ever to sound like this. Even other Beefheart is out there but not to this level. Mind Blowing Stuff here.

The Velvet UndergroundUnited States The Velvet Underground
Always been my favorite velvet underground album, well at least since the first time i heard it. Candy Says What Goes On are the strongest tracks in a collection of continually great songs. Not the sonic assault of the previous two albums which are also fantastic.

Hot RatsUnited States Frank Zappa
Zappa at his guitar god best. Shreds the ax all over this album, Contains my favorite Zappa Song with lyrics by Captain Beefheart Willie the Pimp. A hot guitar fest such a treat much of the album is just jamming which is right down my alley.

Music To EatUnited States Hampton Grease Band
Wow! Wow Wow. This record is wild. Original creative one of the most original records on this list. I can not get enough of this album. Has a similar aesthetic to Zappa or Beefheart. Was rumored to be one of the worst selling rock n roll albus of all-time. That tells you how out there it is but it s fantastic especially for fans of bizarre boundary pushing music.

Small Talk At 125th And LenoxUnited States Gil Scott-Heron
I do not agree with everything said on this album but there is no denying it is a powerful example of a particular movement at a particular moment in time. It is raw and hits hard it is unapologetic and completely not politically correct but this album is essential and should be played in history courses studying the late 60's early 70's. POWERFUL.

Not much in common (only 8 albums & 8 artists) but phenomenal choices in rock, hip-hop, funk, soul, prog, jazz, etc. Super rich and inclusive. Great notes too. Loved seeing Cat Stevens at #12, he was one of my first loves and that album was among the first few I owned. I saved some of your rap selections to listen to later. None of your choices seemed cliche (Even Beatles at #1), I'm glad you chose this method of entry. Saving this chart to my favorites.

I liked reading your notes. They are really sensible. And I liked what you wrote about trying to make an honest chart about what are REALLY your favorite albums, rather than what you think SHOULD be your favorite albums. But even that isn't as easy as it sounds, as I've discovered.
