Track Pick: Gymonopedies No. 3

The mind of Man is fram'd even like the breath
And harmony of music. There is a dark
Invisible workmanship that reconciles
Discordant elements, and makes them move
In one society. Ah me! that all
The terrors, all the early miseries
Regrets, vexations, lassitudes, that all
The thoughts and feelings which have been infus'd
Into my mind, should ever have made up
The calm existence that is mine when I
Am worthy of myself! Praise to the end!
Thanks likewise for the means! But I believe
That Nature, oftentimes, when she would frame
A favor'd Being, from his earliest dawn
Of infancy doth open out the clouds,
As at the touch of lightning, seeking him
With gentlest visitation; not the less,
Though haply aiming at the self-same end,
Does it delight her sometimes to employ
Severer interventions, ministry
More palpable, and so she dealt with me.

Track Pick: It's all one track.

If sleep is truce, as it is sometimes said,
A pure time for the mind to rest and heal,
Why, when they suddenly wake you, do you feel
That they have stolen everything you had?
Why is it so sad to be awake at dawn?
It strips us of a gift so strange, so deep,
It can be remembered only in half-sleep,
Moments of drowsiness that gild and adorn.
The waking mind with dreams, which may well be
But broken images of the night’s treasure,
A timeless world that has no name or measure
And breaks up in the mirrors of the day.
Who will you be tonight, in the dark thrall
Of sleep, when you have slipped across its wall?

Your heart trembles in the shadows, like a face reflected in troubled water
The old mirage rises from the pit of the night
You sense the sweet sorcery of the past:
A river carries you far away from the banks,
Carries you toward the ancestral landscape.
Listen to those voices singing the sadness of love
And in the mountain, hear that tom-tom panting like the breast of a young black girl

Your soul is this image in the whispering water where your fathers bent their dark faces
Its hidden movements blend you with the waves
And the white that made you a mulatto is this bit of foam cast up, like spit, upon the shore.

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

Track Pick(s): Don't Bother They're Here, The Finger on Your Temple Is The Barrel of My Raygun, Humectez La Mouture, December Hunting For Vegetarian Fuckface

My heart is awed within me when I think
Of the great miracle that still goes on,
In silence, round me—the perpetual work
Of thy creation, finished, yet renewed
Forever. Written on thy works I read
The lesson of thy own eternity.
Lo! all grow old and die—but see again,
How on the faltering footsteps of decay
Youth presses,—ever-gay and beautiful youth
In all its beautiful forms. These lofty trees
Wave not less proudly that their ancestors
Moulder beneath them. O, there is not lost
One of earth's charms: upon her bosom yet,
After the flight of untold centuries,
The freshness of her far beginning lies
And yet shall lie. Life mocks the idle hate
Of his arch-enemy Death—yea, seats himself
Upon the tyrant's throne—the sepulchre,
And of the triumphs of his ghastly foe
Makes his own nourishment. For he came forth
From thine own bosom, and shall have no end.

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

Track Pick(s): Evening Ceremony

Uttering soft sounds
With their pure voices,
They teach innumerable myriads
Of koṭis of bodhisattvas.
With their voices, deep and enticing
Like the sounds of Brahma
They make the people eager to hear them.
In each world they teach the True Dharma;
They illuminate the Buddha-Dharma
And enlighten sentient beings
By means of various explanations
And innumerable illustrations.
To those who are suffering
And are cast down by old age, illness, and death
They teach nirvana
To extinguish their sufferings.
To those who have merit,
Have paid homage to the buddhas
And seek the excellent Dharma,
They teach the ideal of the pratyekabuddha.
To those heirs of the buddhas
Who have practiced in various ways
And are seeking the utmost wisdom,
They teach the pure path.

Very interesting. Have never heard of anything on the list, but I'm gonna check out The Disintegration Loops and AIA . :D
With that said, thanks for the words, and the lyrics (if it's that) is actually really moving

Interesting choice for that Leyland James Kirby record, I always considered his work as "The Caretaker" as his best, and never really had the proper courage to listen to his monumental long ambient records. Lovely chart mate

From LedZep
This is what I need in my life. Both when studying and generally. I'm just getting into all sorts of ambient music, and this is perfect rn.
Recommendations, you've probably heard some of these (hope not all):
Szun Waves - At Sacred Walls
Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
Mort Garson - Mother Earth's Plantasia
Seven That Spells - OMEGA
Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun (or Serpent's Egg, that one's great too)
Arvo Part - Tabula Rasa

Most of those aren't exactly minimal or ambient, but they all create a certain atmosphere, just like most of the stuff on your chart, so you may like some of these. Cheers!

ICP's stellar free-form jazz. Heavy rec (shouldn't be too hard to find online either).
And I don't usually rate overall charts, but I'll make an exception here. Great stuff. I may have nabbed The Way Of Eiheiji for my Kaiseki chart... fits right in. Also a great soundtrack for reading Kawabata on a Saturday morning.

Haha, good stuff Bobby. When this is all done, I'm hoping it will be one of the better lists of Ambient-type music around. I don't know what it is about that album in particular, but I think it's those pulsating drums in the last song that really put me in a trance.
