Your chart is unique in that half of the albums you have is what alot of the other members seem to have and the other half are duds which no one else has. Plus you like ping pong so thats another -5. If you can handle raw, melodic anthems by people who love their work and can barely play their instruments (yet play them with more feeling than almost any pros), this will astound you. Neil Young has never before or since made a "loud" album this engaging; he's kept trying. Not personal in the sense of "feel my pain" -- but in the sense of "I love music." Petty here wants to share his favorite types of song styles with the listener. Since he was once such a radio star, these can seem formulaic at first. But eventually it gets to you. If you can hear right, this is a naked and beautiful CD. Individual Who, or Beatles, or almost any great group's songs are more stirring than these. But there is a consistency here -- a hatred of where the modern world is going, and a ferocious skill for tunefulness -- where Davies has carved out a fragile, amazing niche of his own. If you've never heard it before, you're either in for suffering or giggly bliss. If you like this, try any of their other albums, especially before 1985. But this is really Beck's best effort, thus far, at reconciling his "fun" and "personal" sides. As it goes, the meandering tone starts to get to you, and, after a while, it's more naggingly insistent in your memory than either "Odelay" or "Sea Change." [from twinsbrewer] Reply to this comment.

It's one of the darkest, most tuneful things you'll ever hear -- as if Joni Mitchell went pop, slick, and sarcastic. The first few listenings may leave you wondering why you bought it . . . eventually it'll worm a way into your head that won't ever leave.
