If you are not about illegally downloading music but are, like a lot of people on BEA are, obsessive about hearing most every album out there, I have just realised that if you type "Original Album Classics" into Amazon, you can get boxsets of 5 original albums for ridiculously low prices. Admittedly it is of bands of yesteryear but some still active bands are represented (e.g. Dream Theater).

I am not aware of the quality you get though. Anybody had any experience with those boxsets.

They aren't worth it. You can get used copies of most of those albums for under $2 each, and so many of the albums in them are just filler.

With a few exceptions, this series looks very boring. I'd rather spend the money on grindcore albums

I have:

The Angels
ELO
Tom Waits
Hunters & Collectors (two volumes)
Billy Joel
Jesus And Mary Chain
Harry Nilsson

Most of these I picked up for $15 each. Therefore $3 an album.

The albums in these packs I have found hard to buy individually (in stores, not online) and if they are individual, usually they are not second hand and are an exorbitant amount eg.: Tom Waits' Small Change $3 compared to $20.99

I'm not especially impressed with the choice of artists, except for Mahavishnu Orchestra.
