  • Quote
Tried to find this topic but no luck.

With Keane releasing an EP instead of an album this year, it got me thinking of the best ever EPs. Some EPs actually have great songs that never are recognised until 10-15 years down the track on a b-sde compilation.

Here are a few to start.

Radiohead - My Iron Lung
Cure - Lost Wishes
Josh Pyke - Feeding The Wolves (which I would include in my chart definately)
Coldplay - Prospekt's March
Elbow - Noisebox
Pixies - Come On Pilgrim
R.E.M. - Chronic Town

4. Oasis - Some Might Say
5. Super Furry Animals - Ice Hockey Hair

The very first one that comes to mind (partly because it's rare but more because it's great):

Poguetry In Motion- The Pogues

Other than that:

Chronic Town- R.E.M. (I know it's already been said but it has to be in the top 10 greatest ever ep's along with the aforementioned Pogues one)
3, 6, 9 Seconds of Light and Dog on Wheels- Belle and Sebastian
Forbidden Love EP- Death Cab for Cutie
Go Ahead and Say It- Racetrack (local band that is defunct now)
Sunfish Holy Breakfast- Guided by Voices
Hold on Hope EP-Guided by Voices
Tigerbomb- Guided by Voices

I totally disagree. It's just as good as The Bends only with fewer songs.

It just occurred to me that the ep is a very indie format.

Forgot about Forbidden Love EP. Thanks Shankly.

There is a collaboration in Aus called Basement Birds (like the Monsters Of Folk collaboration) and they are releasing a series of EPs instead of an album. I guess this is 1) more money, 2) more exposure and 3) different than releasing a double album if the artist has so much material.
