I've already posted in this thread but I'll reiterate my opinion in a slightly better fashion. As much as Neighborhoods #1 brings to mind the wrenchings of your first adolescent love, and as much as Wake Up sounds better than most classic rock songs while sounding distinctly familiar and classic rock-ish, and as much as Sprawl II (among many other songs on yet another masterpiece album, The Suburbs) reminds you that modern life is rubbish, Arcade Fire can't touch The Rolling Stones. As far as singles I enjoy, Rolling Stones win; as far as albums I enjoy, Rolling Stones win. And as emotive as Arcade Fire is (and they are very great at it), I still don't believe they've reached the emotive heights of songs like Wild Horses, Midnight Mile, Tumblin Dice, or even Rocks Off. Arcade Fire deals with a special kind of emotiveness, in which it is key to show a certain vulnerability, but the Stones keep the emotiveness at their most macho, e.g. No Satisfaction (that song is less about the riff than it is that they are literally never happy). I could ramble on, but the bottom line is that I like both bands yet find the Rolling Stones albums and tracks to be better than Arcade Fire.
Easy choice the stones have better albums, better single and have shown they can be consistently good (so have Arcade Fire but I feel that the Stones have proved it more so).
