Personally, I've found that after listening to music a lot, I often do get it. The VU&N, for example, took me like a dozen listens. When so many people like something, it's much more likely that you'll "get" it eventually. Of course, you might not, and there may be some music you really like that is generally disliked, but as a rule of thumb, I've found it works pretty well.

This. The VU&N is definitely one of those bands that require repeated listens.
